Hello, friend, and welcome to Solace Weyr, the dead-as-shit Dragonriders of Pern site which was recently liberated from invisible-thread hell. Nobody roleplays here any more, but this place is still pretty great. Feel free to stay a while and admire its quiet beauty.

Firelizard Eggs Courtesy of Mohsen and Chimmy
As you approach the stall, you're greeted by an old man who, even here in the middle of the gather, smells distinctly of the sea. More noticeable, however, is the monstrous Bronze flitt perched on his shoulder.
"In'trested in some eggs?" he asks as you approach, his pet warbling. "Chimmy here is great, and boy, did he catch a doozy of a Gold! Snipey little thing, she was, nearly took off my finger! Got 'er eggs, though, and they're a sevenday from hatchin'." The Bronze struck a pose as he was complimented on his ability to chase. "No touchin', but feel free t' look. M'name's Mohsen if yer lookin' to buy."
He turns to hark his wares, leaving you to examine the eggs nestled in a sand table. They're mostly arranged in order from largest to smallest, with lines drawn in the sand to mark the price divisions.
XL Firelizard Egg - 225 marks 1 Available "That one's a Gold fer sure... 'r maybe on o' them, uh... Ore, or whatever, them Southerners bred. Yeh, it's one of those, fer sure."
L Firelizard Egg - 175 marks 2 Available "M'boy Chimmy here makes only the best! Iffn' yer lookin' for a smart, strong flitt, right there's where ye'll find 'em. Practically hatch trained!"
M Firelizard Egg - 125 marks 2 Available "Y'know, Chimmy's pa was a Brown. Kid ye not! 'N look at him, a monster! So ye can't go wrong wit' one o' them eggs, be as mighty as their sire AND their grandsire!"
S Firelizard Egg - 75 marks 4 Available "They might be little, but I will tell you, they're gonna be the prettiest little things you've ever saw. Chimmy sired a Blue once that th' Masterharper himself wanted set into a ring! Like a little sapphire, he was! Better get the pretty ones 'fore the other folks do."
XS Firelizard Egg - 50 marks 1 Available "Eh, Chimmy actually found that one somewheres. Swears up 'n down it's good. Looks good, anyway. 'N lookit it, pocket-sized 'n everythin'. Bet you it's one o' them new colors, somethin' even Southern hasn't even seen yet. Ye'll be the talk o' the town if ye get that one."
briia and anii's pretty woven things stall! run by briia and anii
The sign above this stall pretty much says exactly what it is: it sells pretty woven things, like necklaces. And bracelets and bags and things to tell Firelizards and Crawlers apart. It is run by two young girls: the older, Briia, is seventeen Turns old, while Anii, who is younger, is a Turn younger, at sixteen Turns.
- - - - -
woven necklaces . 7 marks apiece for three threads; add one for each extra thread if wanted
"I make these. They're cheap; really good value; and I know they'll look really nice. Give them to your sweetheart, maybe?"
woven bracelets . 4 marks apiece; add one for each extra thread if wanted
"And I make these. They're cheaper than her necklaces, and they fit around a wrist or an ankle: they have two purposes!"
firelizard harness + leash . 15 marks apiece; add two for each extra piece of leather if wanted
"We both make these, and they take a long time. They're a bit more expensive than everything else, but they are made of leather. If you have a Firelizard that's inclined to fly off, though, this is useful - although it's also useful if you have two Firelizards who look similar: or both!"
firelizard carrying-pack . 17 marks apiece; add two for each extra piece of leather if wanted
"We both make these, too. If you have a helpful (and trained) Firelizard, then you can put this on them and send them to places to deliver messages. It omes with a special strap to put a letter in, and a small bag attached to the side to put a small parcel in."
small dog carry-bags . 20 marks; add 3 for each extra colour of leather if wanted
"I make these, and they're really useful. If you have a little dog that can't keep up or doesn't like to get his paws muddy, then put him in this bag: he won't need to run to keep up that way!"
"Eh, something I can 'elp you with? No, then what you lookin' at? You want to see the animals, well come on then. Come see the animals, don't touch nothin' that you aren't willin' to buy though. I don't 'ave the time for people gettin' the itches to touch animals. I'm a man of business, not little children needin' attention.
No refunds either, so choose wisely."
Young Puppy - 25 marks Seven Available "The small ones? Eh, those are rather young. I 'aven't the time to teach them nothin'. They're fine without their mother, but they don't know nothin'. You want one, you best 'ave the time to train and watch them. Eat your shoes they will and everythin' else you 'ave. Good pups though, watch the 'erd they will. I recon they're worth more, but I'll give it to you for cheap."
Mature Puppy - 50 marks Five Available "I'm rather proud of these pups, I am. 'Ave them for a turn, trained them well, I did. Smarter than those little wigglers in the basket, these ones won't eat your shoes. Real good pups these are, you want one you best 'ave the marks for them. I love them as much as I can, what you lookin' at? A man like myself can love what 'e wants!"
Tunnelcats - 100 marks Five Available "Eh, these things? Got them off a trader for a good price. Don't know much about them, they seem like good pets. Need a bit of trainin' in my opinion, but if you mind the long bodied creatures runnin' around then that's your choice. They look like good pets, guess time will tell, eh?"
Kittens - 150marks Four Available "Cute aren't they? Little rascals they are, always causing mischief. Don't be fooled by that adorable little face, they will tear apart all you love. Less needy then those pups though, they can go off on their own. Great pest control too, can't train them but who needs a trained pet?"
Songbirds - 75 marks Four Available "Beautiful they are, not good at much but they'll brighten up your room. Don't take it out of the cage, they'll fly off and won't come back. Can teach them tunes, one time I was whistling a tune and shards! I caught one trilling it the next day. Smart birds, not good for much but definitely smart."
The first thing you notice about the stall is the nasty stench it gives off. The second thing you notice is the woman who runs it. Aravon is a large woman, large being an understatement, and intimidating by all accounts. She runs the stall with an iron fist, and, really, if it wasn't for the fact she was in a caravan and got interesting pets because of this, no one would want to deal with her.
"Oi! This ain't no free stall, ya brat. Ya touch it, ya buy it-" She's chewing out some poor Weyrbrat and- great, she's set your eyes on you. "Oh! A customer! Well, whadda ya want?"
Well?
young runner - 75 marks three available
Aravon pulls you around to the back of her stall, where three baby runners are all tied up to the back of her wagon. They each look healthy enough, and, she gives an unnerving grin as she speaks. "Yeh, this is our lot this year. Yeh're lucky if ya want an ickle runner this year, they come from the best linage. No bad mares or stallions in my lot, I tell ya. They'll need some trainin, all babes do but, they'll be worth it. Look all ya want but, if ya touch any of em, yah're buying em."
old runner - 50 marks one available
Next to the three babes is an older runner, far old, actually. It looks like it'll only live five or so more turns, really. Aravon is quick to defend it, though. "Oh? This ol thing? Hardest worker yeh'll ever find! They may be old but, don't let it fool ya! They're real strong, not to mention loving. And cheap!"
adult runners - 115 marks two available
Even further back behind the stall are two mature runners. They look healthy and strong, and, Aravon gives you a hard look as she tells you about them. "These lot are already trained, so they're more expensive. These are the ones that didn't sell at last year's gather so, ya can buy em now, all grown. Ain't even had any babes yet, these lot. So they're good."
falcon egg - 50 marks five available
Back at the front of the stall, sitting in a wooden crate, are five large bird eggs. They're not cracked, thankfully, and look well taken care of. "Falcon eggs. My son's old batty falcon laid em, we didn't want em so, here they are. I reckon they'd be good for something. Messages, maybe. Huntin'? I dunno, but, they're good quality. We ain't got no bad pets in my family, ya hear?"
crawler eggs - 60 marks ten available
In another crate sits eggs of various sizes, all nestled comfortably on a cloth blanket. "These crawler eggs are the best you'll find! Promise, ain't gonna find no others like 'em. Beauts they are, my own crawler Missy laid em so, I can promise yah they're great. And I ain't pricing by size or nothing either, ya want one just tell me and I'll reach in there and grab it for ya. All the same price, I ain't no haggler."
miscellaneous eggs - 15 marks ten available
Finally, in another crate, sits ten eggs or various sizes and appearances. Some have cracks, but, most don't. Aravon eyes the crate with a shrug before speaking. "Yeh, those are just eggs we've found or- uh.. bought. Yeh, not too sure what on Pern is in most of em but, I'm sure they're good eggies. May get a snake, or a lizard, maybe even another bird or firelizard, ain't sure. Surprise in each one, ya know?"[/ul]
Hagar's Fine Leather Goods and More: Everything you'll ever want for your everyday riding needs...and more! Run by Dragonless Hagar
An elderly gentlemen with a gruff, raspy voice beckons for you to come over to his stall. His hair is thinning and gray and his beard is silver and sort of patchy. He looks haggard and worn. He was once a Rider, a long time ago now. He still has a little bounce to his step though and twinkle in his eye. But only after a lot of time and healing. He has gone back to his craft of leather working and has some fine merchandise for sale today. A wide variety of riding apparel lines the walls of his stall from gloves to goggles to boots and jackets. Something shiny catches your eye. A single, enormous egg sits on display in a small makeshift box with sand to act as a miniature sort of hatching sands. At first glance it is plain and white. But when the light hits it just right you see it is like an opal with swirls of pinks and a silvery hue covering the entire surface. It is firm and is likely to hatch any day now. Nearby the man's feet you also notice a herding canine with long, multi-colored fur (think Australian Shepherd). You hear the man call her Willow at one point. She is watching over a box which contains several of her pups, crawling all over each other and whining for attention. She pulls one curious pup off from on top of his brother and places him back in the box.
Riding Gloves - 5 marks Unlimited "Just yer typical riding gloves. Nothin' too special about 'em. But they will last ye a while, I can promise ye that. Everythin' in this here stall is made to last. Made out of the finest hand-crafted leather. Tanned it myself an everythin'. I do offer some unique colors. Been experimentin' with dyes. Got jus' about any color ye could ask fer."
Riding Goggles - 7 marks Unlimited "Been tryin' somethin' new with these. Used a new material. Not as thick and bulky as they usually are. You'll hardly notice yer wearin' 'em. Sturdy though. I've tested 'em myself. If ye be needin' a new pair, I'd try 'em out."
Riding Jackets - 10 marks 15 Available "Used the finest leather for these. Flexible; easy to move in. And warm to boot. They're lined with the wool from my own ovine stock. Will keep ya warm, for sure. Go on, try 'em out. Got plenty of colors too. Tan, brown and black. Whatever ya fancy."
Riding Boots - 15 marks 20 pair Available "Been makin' boots fer years. I was a leather worker well before I was a Rider. My father taught me how to make boots when I was just a lad. These will last ye for turns, I can promise ye that. Plenty of sizes to choose from. Go on, give 'em a try. Don't be shy now."
Willow's Puppies - 20 marks 9 Available - 8 sevendays old "Willow here's my herding dog. Just gave birth to her second liter of pups. Her first liter went quickly. I 'spect just as much for these little ones. Good lines. If they're anythin' like their mom, they'll be fast. Smart. Easy to train like Willow here. There be 4 females and 5 males. They be needin' good homes soon. Can't care fer all of 'em."
XL Firelizard Egg - 200 marks 1 Available "Ah, I see yer lookin' at my egg, here. She's a beaut, fer sure. Just traded for 'er not too long ago. I 'spect she's due to hatch any day now. I got 'er from a trusted friend o' mine and he says it's gun' be a Queen fer sure. A Gold or even one o' them other metallics, me thinks. You migh' be able to get me to come down on the price a lil' bit. Depends on if I like ye enough."
WARNING: Contest is ending _SOON!_ ANY LAST ENTRIES OR CHANGES TO YOUR ENTRIES _MUST BE MADE_ ASAP. IF YOU NEED AN EXTENSION, PLEASE LET AN ADMIN KNOW.
--PLEASE REMEMBER, FOR THOSE OF YOU STILL WORKING ON YOUR STALLS, THAT THE STALLS ARE NOT -JUST- FOR SHOW. THEY WILL ACTUALLY BE USED.--
This is a last minute suggestion, but art going along with whatever you're selling would be neat, even if it's just a sketch. (eg. a sketch of a sweater that is being sold) or something, or a short description of items. These are not necessary, but would definitely add weight to any sales! =]
When you approach this stall, a strange feeling creeps over you, causing goosebumps to rise up on your arms. At first glance, this stall looks rather inconspicuous, just another trying to hawk wares and get a few marks. Clothing was a common sight, especially with the turning season. Still, these clothes... there was something different about them.
The shopkeeper - for lack of a better name - appeared to be an old trader woman. Old isn't even the correct word. Ancient. As if she first stepped on Pern at the same time as the great Benden and Telgar... it's hard to see her eyes between all her wrinkles, but you can't shake the idea that she's watching you.
There aren't many items to select from. Normally dozens of different articles of clothing are found in a stall such at this. Instead, there are only a few... and each feels... weird. Still, you can't help but be drawn to them.
An Extra Set of Clothing - 50 Marks "You'll feel like a whole new person," the old auntie rasps. You get the idea that putting on this set of clothing would almost transform you into something different. Someone with a completely different past and, perhaps, a completely different future." +1 character slot
Two Pairs of Pants - 75 marks "The same, and different." Indeed, these two pairs are, well, a pair. They look exactly identical. You get the feeling that if you were to investigate the stitching, every needle stroke would be precisely the same as the other pair. +Twin Characters
Worn Riding Boots - 100 Marks "They have seen more than the lifetimes of all the Weyr combined." These boots practically reek of despair. If crushing depression could have a stench, it would be wafting in visible clouds from these scuffed, beaten boots. Still, they are hardy, stout, and would still endure. +Dragonless Character
A Finely Crafted Hat - 400 Marks "Put that on, and you will hear that which has no sound." This hat is certainly interesting, plain and yet beautiful. There are flaps that cover the ears, which one might think would muffle sounds. Instead, the impression of being able to hear the thoughts of another come to mind during any examination. +1 HAD
An Exquisitely Embroidered Shawl - 600 Marks "Mothers creating mothers." This drape is gorgeously decorated in fine stitching in a rainbow of colors, depicting a dragon guarding a clutch. While the subject in and of itself is not all that strange, further inspection of the dam is... interesting. She is not gold, she is not silver, she is not copper. This dragon is distinctly matte, not a single metallic thread decorates her hide. +1 Clutching Chromatic Dragon
