Tall, dark, handsome... well, A'vel has one of the three. Two, depending on the individual person, but the great majority will call A'vel cute long before they would speak of his handsomeness. Indeed, this Bronzerider takes after his father and has quite the baby face. He would almost be adorable if it wasn't for the snark and swagger draped about his person. No, A'vel will never be the woobie, but he certainly will be the jock.
A'vel's complexion goes beyond tan - his skin is a distinct dark olive that borderlines on a chocolatey brown. His hair is similar, though there is a definite brown cast to it when in enough light. Even in moderate lighting conditions, however, it is easy to assume he has pitch black hair. While somewhat coarse and unruly, he still tries to keep it long, hanging about his head in a casual, shaggy style. Very few know the real reasoning for this, but catching the Bronzerider after a hard day of riding, his hair slicked back by sweat and his helmet, one will find that his deep, dark secret is that he is balding. Stricken down in his prime by a premature loss of hair. So, for now, he tries to deny and cover up the truth, though it's only a matter of time before he gives in and just keeps his head shaved.
A'vel has an oval face that is rather plain. All of his features are soft, despite the leanness in his face. His nose is a bit large and somewhat flat; his lips are plump and contrast starkly with the rest of his skin. It is not this, however, that most people notice when they really look at this Bronzerider's face. It is, instead his eyes that either intrigue or freak out others in the Weyr. Yes, the sclera do contrast starkly against his skin, but it is the irises, one brown, one hazel, that draw stares. This uneven gaze is what is most striking about this Rider.
Despite his efforts, A'vel will not be towering over anyone any time soon. This man is distinctively short, a grant total of 5'7" at his tallest. By no means minuscule, there is no denying that the majority of men and a good sum of women do look down to him. Perhaps compensating, A'vel has worked his body since the day it became apparent that he would not match his peers in height, and he definitely shows it. He is a wall of muscle, compact and strong. It is more than apparent that he can carry great burdens upon his broad shoulders.
