Character Number: One!
Name: A'san [pronounced a-sahn]
Age: 19 turns, born in autumn
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Rank: Ironrider
Wing: Black Cloud
Status: Fighting fit
Playby: Jason Ritter
Appearance: Standing at only 5'3" and weighing in around 110 lbs, there is no doubt that A'san is a small man. He has what would be considered a jockey's build. There's not a scrap of fat on his lean body, it's all muscle and sinew. In order to keep it that way, A'san runs religiously every morning at dawn. Surprisingly few scars mar his flesh; the most significant of them is a pale diagonal line across his thigh about 6 inches long when he layed his thigh open several turns ago by accident with a hunting knife.
A'san has dark brown hair and brown eyes to go with it. He usually has a bit of scruff on his face giving him a bit of an edge. More often than not, the closest his hair comes to being combed is by having the ironrider's fingers raked through it and it seems like he has always just dismounted his dragon. His slightly unkempt grooming gives him a roguish flair, but it's mostly just for show.
While generally always a little bit of a mess, A'san can clean up nicely and is a bit of a ladies man. He'll primp and puff up in an effort to turn heads and gain the favor of someone sweet. Simple clothes are what suits him best and he tends to lean toward earth tones and creams in durable hardly fabrics and leather.
Personality: A'san is ambitious. His primary goal is to exceed expectations, even his own, in everything he does. This doesn't mean that he doesn't know how to have fun though! His striving for the best includes his penchance for mischief as well. He takes his work and responsibilities serious and is one of the most dependable riders you could ever hope to find. He's clever and is always thinking outside the box, thus his solutions for many things are often out of the norm but generally effective. His biggest pet peeve is not being taken seriously or overlooked because of his small stature. Because of his size, he has a personality to compensate. He lives by the motto of "go big or go home". This ironrider is a serial flirt and it'll eventually end him up in hot water though. He has no intentions of settling himself into a serious relationship and his "flavor of the moment" changes frequently and without warning. A'san is somewhat cocky, but his heart is in the right place. He's not a malicious person by any means.
A'san's idea of a good time is wine and a woman, but he also enjoys a good gather. Though it's rare for him to show off, A'san has a pleasant singing voice but in situations where it would be appropriate for him to show off, he usually ends up to preoccupied with his "good times".
History: A'san was the result of a mating flight, like so many children of the Weyr. His mother, blackrider Failan, didn't have a maternal bone in her body and Arlesan was raised in the weyr creche. Arlesan was raised knowing that his parents were dragonriders and their names and was proud of the fact. His father took the time, when possible, to guide and teach the boy and Arlesan eagerly anticipated the afternoons where he might be able to help his father oil Gavinth's brown hide or meticulously inspect the riding straps for cracks or stretch marks.
Arlesan was always small and as a child was bullied because of it. He quickly learned to stand up for and defend himself. When he was provoked into a fight, Arlesan proved himself to be fierce and used his size and agility to his advantage. The bullying stopped almost completely by the time he was 8, though sly remarks were uttered all throughout his childhood.
The one thing that Arlesan wanted more than anything else in life was to Impress a dragon of his own. He had the opportunity to stand starting from the time he was 14 turns. He stood unsuccessfully several times, but refused to give up hope because he knew his dragon was waiting for him, even if it hadn't been clutched yet. In the summer of his 17th turn, his dream was finally realized and he became known as A'san when he Impressed the stormy iron Saarth.
The ill-tempered dragon proved to be quite the challenge, but A'san greeted it with enthusiasm and they survived weyrlinghood without tragedy. A'san's father died during Threadfall shortly after A'san Impressed and Failan transferred out turns ago.
