Username: Weirdo
Character Number: 1
Name: Werina
Age: 16
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Rank: Candidate
Wing: None
Status: Healthy, for the moment.
Appearance:
Werina outwardly has an appearance that brings to mind sickness, of something that needs to be avoided for fear of contamination. Her skin is a sickly pale, the shade of a girl who'd rather spend her time working in the lower caverns then peddling about outside. Dark circles grace her eyes, giving her pale face an eerie look. However, she isn't lacking in the weight department. Despite her being firmly of average weight, just one look at Werina and one can tell that the girl isn't fit in the least. Weyrling training will be torture for her. While she can handle her chores with ease, she isn't quite prepared for what comes after impression.
Perhaps the most eye catching thing about Werina would be the curtains of dark hair that hangs past her shoulder. She rarely styles it in any way, merely brushing out the knots or pulling it back before setting to her normal tasks. It tends to get in the way a great deal, but Werina stubbornly refuses to get it cut. Years of neglect has left this hair looking quite shabby, adding to her unhealthy seeming appearance. The final touch to her appearance are gray-green eyes, quite boring in color.
Clothing wise, she tends to dress herself in neutral colors, though it doesn't seem like she really cares what she's wearing. She just tosses it on and is done with it.
Personality:
The best description for Werina is two faced, and not just with the lies she adores telling. Oh, yes, she lies. It's quite unusual in that she never needs to lie, and hardly seems to mean to. They just slip out, as if there's no dam holding it back. Just as she lies without thinking, Werina speaks without thinking. She hates the thought of offending or upsetting someone, but the words slip out before she can stop them. She has a particular habit of combining this with her lying to paint herself as a tough, brilliant girl. Someone so much more interesting then who she really is.
Werina is quite shy among crowds and those she doesn't know, pulling away from all contact whatsoever. She shys away from physical touches and will merely stare mutely when the crowd is addressed, despite the fact she is inherently a social creature. She's quite the lonely thing, and when she's quiet she can often be caught eavesdropping on conversations, or just flat out staring. It' snot that she doesn't talk, really. Werina lives in fear of being rejected, and her solution to this fear is to isolate herself and prevent any rejection from ever happening. She's caught between the fear of intruding and longing for companionship... but the second someone talks to her, all reservations are gone.
When among those she knows, or having an exciting conversation, Werina turns into a social butterfly. A loud social butterfly. She doesn't seem to have any concept of volume control, and will often be found gleefully screaming in the ear of whoever is tolerating her for the evening. She craves contact with others in these situations, often lightly touching shoulders or hugging.
She has a great deal of trouble controlling her emotions. In situations where others would shrug and move on, Werina might break out into tears and be humiliated afterwards. Where others would solve the situation, Werina will scream and yell and be furious. She does her best to control herself, and is always mortified at these outbursts of emotion.
Werina was brought up in a home where manners mattered, to say the least. She was taught to never intrude on conversations, to always say please and thank you, and to respect her elders. She was also taught that the Weyrs were immoral, no place for a girl like her. Obviously, she feels a great deal of conflict. On the inside, Werina wants to be wild and party and be the best rider she can be. Still, she does her best to reign in her emotions and behave as her mother would expect her to.
History:
Werina was born into a fairly normal home at Cliff Hold, albeit an extremely strict one. The third child out of five, Werina grew up mostly ignored in the frantic disarray of a house that had four boys. Well, except when her mother wanted a doll. Werina was a toy to her, something to dress up and coo at but never to actually take seriously. Her mother dragged her everywhere, showing off her pretty and refined little girl to all that would listen to her. She taught Werina that she must be a perfect little girl, and Werina listened reverently.
When her brothers played in mud, Werina would watch longingly and then leave them to their games. She avoided the things other children loved, with the exception of one thing. Dragons. She loved the giant beasts. She loved their appearance, their beauty, their intelligence. They were marvelous creatures.
Thus, when a dragonrider arrived on Search when she was merely ten years old, Werina was there to greet him. His Blue did not speak to her, naturally, but he was a charming creature that was willing to tolerate the multiple questions from the child. Eventually, she was shooed away by his rider so that they could leave the Hold.
That day, Werina fell in love. She began to ignore her mothers instructions and warnings about the immortality of Weyrs, instead gazing longingly at the distant figures that flew high above. The tales of tension only excited Werina more, dreams of being a great soldier filling her head. When she was searched at sixteen for the Zodiac clutch, her mother didn't intervene.
Let her silly daughter run off to the Weyrs. She was sure she'd be back.
