Hello, friend, and welcome to Solace Weyr, the dead-as-shit Dragonriders of Pern site which was recently liberated from invisible-thread hell. Nobody roleplays here any more, but this place is still pretty great. Feel free to stay a while and admire its quiet beauty.

It was a warm, lazy day at the Weyr. There were the few unfortunate souls stuck with chores and a lesson going on, but for the most part, everyone and everything in Solace was lazing about this afternoon.
Everything, that is, except the flitts.
Those that did watch the antics of the little dragonkin would see them darting around in a swarm like some kind of caffeinated locusts. They were loud and obnoxious - at least, moreso than usual. Most sent a glare their way, then went back to relaxing. They were just flitts... easy to ignore.
One flitt, however, refused to be ignored. She burst from the top of the pack, trilling loudly. It wasn't like it was anything special, but the way her hide glowed... if the humans weren't paying attention now, they would possibly find they no longer had a choice.
Cerai darted across the Weyrbowl, screeching her challenge to any of the pack that dared follow. She was a mighty Green, and it would take a mighty male to catch her! The question was, would any be worthy?
((...Galanaven is not done yet, so therefore neither is Eritz. But since they are both happening soon, I will throw Eritz in here. >[))
Blue Eritz was lounging on Galansk's back. It helped that Galansk was decidedly asleep, overly exhausted from his own attempts to chase a wild female the previous day (much to the sexual frustration of Lana). He was awake at the moment, Eritz was, the mature Blue staring lazily about his person's quarters. He could remember way back when when Lana-his had been in a dragonweyr. Somehow, even knowing Lana as he did, he had never quite expected to go nocturnal, and his body never had fully adjusted. So here he was, lazing about. Awake when Lana-his and the Galansk thing were not.
He had not been with the faire that danced and darted through the air, trying as he could to res (dammit). It didn't work. Ultimately, the call of Cerai had him up and off of Galansk's back in an instant. In the cold depths of Between, he did not lose his interest. Eritz was a particularly virile Blue, as lazy as he could be at times. He never turned down a Green's calls (though often other colors he did). He chirruped her a lazy greeting that was, more likely than not, ignored, given her screeching.
He was proud of himself. He had felt her call, it seemed, faster than some of the pack of firelizards that were actually up and about had. Feeling smug and confident, he trilled and chittered cheerily. He was a cheery little thing, now. But he could be might. Oh, he could be very mighty. After all, It doesn't take noise to be mighty. He whirred at her, letting her know that he would satisfy, even if he did not have the immediate brawn and the immediate brazen behavior that she likely craved.
Eritz was a sneaky lover. And certainly a talented one, if Cerai would let him have his chance.
Midnight's pet had gotten a small fleshy thing that looked like it, Midnight didn't like that. Midnight was no longer the favorite of his pet. He didn't mind not always getting attention, but now his pet was making noises of irritation and aggression at him. He was not allowed to go near the small fleshy thing that made crooning noises and spit on itself, he was not allowed to try and play with it. When the small fleshy thing grabbed his tail he was not allowed to reprimand it.
Midnight was not happy with his pet so he had left the weyr to go lounge out in the sun. He huffed a little when he flicked his tail over his snout and closed his eyes. He would sleep until his pet gained some intelligence. His pet would certainly see the error in it's ways and get rid of the fleshy creature in favor of Midnight.
When Midnight heard the call, he let out a squawk before getting up and springing into the air. He bugled to the beautiful green, announcing his intent to chase the gem. He paid little attention to the other male who had arrived before him, he would win surely this little beauty. He did not need his pet or the fleshy creature. All he needed was Cerai.
A flash a green whizzed by Rusty from his little ledge where he sunned himself and he instantly perked his head up with a chirp. He knew something exciting was due to happen any time now. There was a buzz in the air among the flitts and though Rusty was not the smartest firelizard, being told this many times by His, he was not oblivious to the females in the Weyr and how they glowed. And Rusty was ready to answer their calls. He had been saving up his energy for such a time as this.
He heard Cerai's call, her challenge and he answered her willingly. A mighty green indeed, and my how she glowed an enchanting shade of green! Was he ready? He sure hoped so! He certainly felt ready. Eagerly, Rusty immediately zoomed after Cerai, not oblivious to the fact she already had some pursuers. Perhaps rusty was not as vibrant or agile as his blue competitors, but by the first egg, he would not make this chase easy for them! Rusty was on the smaller side for a brown, so at least he had that going for him. He was simple-minded, this particular brown lizard. But he certainly had heart. He only hoped he would get the chance to show Cerai just how big his heart was.

Bronze Crawley had been asleep, sound asleep! It was nice, to be able to sleep without the large cousin screaming and screaming. For a firelizard, the creature certainly slept a lot, and he had missed the bliss of floating in sheer nothingness. When the shriek first awoke him, it was all he could do but blink sleepily, roll onto his back and croon for his person. Naturally, the human was no where to be seen, and neither was the oversized brown he called a dragon. Snorting softly, the critter rolled to his feet and took to wing.
A mighty green, hm? With a loud trill, the bronze burst onto the scene. The competition didn't look terribly fierce, he decided, blues and browns. Feh! Cerai should be honored a bronze had joined (even if he was all rather small for his color, his hide was brassy and shiny, certainly impressive, if he did say so himself). Bugling again, Crawley pumped his wings, attempting to surge beyond the other males, and garner the attention of the female for himself. Cerai! A trill. Cerai!

Only four males? Seriously? Something as magnificent as her... unless the rest didn't dare. She was amazing, a great flitt, and no male would even think they had the ability to actually catch her. No, no, no, they would have to win her!
Cerai banked suddenly, possibly throwing the males off simply because, within a moment, she was headed towadds them. The turn was not necessarily tight - agility was not this particular Green's strong point - but it was a full 180 degrees. Literally taking the flight in a completely different direction, she dodged for a group of humans, hoping to throw off her pursuers among the bodies. A startled yelp was met with a squawk, giving away her position, and she was forced to dart off.
It would be surprising for any onlooker. To the Blues or any more streamlined Green, Cerai would be sluggish, almost clumsy in the air. Twisting through the humans, however, she was simply a viridian streak, crying racciously with lust.
Still, they would have to win her... and Cerai was not a Green that would go down easily.
Eritz was an average Blue. That is to say, he had plenty of agility. Her sudden turn had surprised him, but it had been the wideness that had thrown him off most. He ended up misjudging his own turn, and he almost crashed into a human himself. In fact, at one point, he did stumble into a bulky man, a Brownrider by his knots that Eritz frankly did not care about. The man glanced at him, and Eritz looked up at him, eyes whirling violet. The Brownrider gave a laugh, grabbed Eritz firmly around the waist with one enormous hand and threw Eritz like a football in the right direction.
Eritz squawked in ungainly surprise. But then he spotted his Green prize, and he regained his composure. He flapped steadily, but quickly, propelling him through the air like a dart. Indeed, after that throw, he felt like a dart, with extra momentum helping him along. He remained above the crowd now, but he followed her movements, now that he knew where to start. Her own squawk had helped him an awful lot. He was only just above the heads of the tallest humans, and more than a few were ducking in surprise. He did not look back.
Rusty reacted perhaps a moment slower to the Cerai' change in direction than Eritz had and chirped both out of surprise and confusion. He had continued along their previous trajectory for a fraction of a candlemark before he realized he was the only one going in that direction. OK, so he wasn't the fastest flitt on the Chase today. Nor the smartest. But he was trying his darndest, shardit!
Rusty frantically about-faced in the crowd of humans, somehow managing to avoid smacking into one, though he certainly had some close calls and some surprised yelps seemed to be direction at him as he shot by, pumping his little wings as fast as he could. They burned now, but he ignored it. He was determined to see this Flight out til the end! If there was one thing this little brown had, it was heart!
He had finally caught up to Cerai now and saw that the only thing between she and him now was a blue, hot on her tail! He pushed forward in determination, his neck elongated as if that would give him the extra length to catch up, and chirping to let Cerai know he was still there and determined as ever to win her love and affection!

((And the almighty dice say...))
Onward she powered, determination in every fiber of Cerai's being. She would not back down! Tired? Of course not. She had stamina other flitts her size could only dream about. No, no, no, this flight would last hours, days... until the sun itself burned out!
The group had passed the humans by now, flying straight through the Weyrbowl, up towards the cliffs. For this flight to go far, to last long, Cerai would need open space. The Bowl simply wasn't enough. She needed plains, she needed the open plateau. She needed to get away from this Blue! Where did he come from? Red-violet eyes glared at Eritz. He had overstepped his bounds!
Shrieking her defiance, she darted away from the Blue, trying to escape him. It would work well enough... only she managed to fly right into the path of Rusty. Shrieking again, she struggled to leave his clutches. This would not do! She was not ready!
Still, it was only a moment before she gave into the urges and gave into the warm Brown holding her, curling her tail about his.
Lucky for Rusty, fate had certain plans for him today. It wasn't often that things went the large brown firelizard's way. His wasn't as nice to him as the other humans were to their pets. So it was about time that the world would give one simple-minded brown flitt a break.
Cerai was still pushing forward. She was strong; she was fast. Rusty had difficulty keeping up, and the blue one was still nearly on top of her. No, this wasn't right! Rusty pushed forward, wings beginning to burn as he pumped them faster and faster.
Suddenly, Cerai shrieked, and Rusty shrieked in return, startled as he found the green beauty right in his path. They practically collided, and she was already in his grasp. All he had to do was seize the moment (quite literally). Crooning affectionately, he tried to reassure her that it would be all right. He had her now. It certainly felt right to Rusty as he intertwined his tail with hers, and held her steadily in his grasp. Sometimes, the underdog does win.
