Character Number: 1
Name: Gwen
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual, possible curiosity. Will see how the RP goes
Rank: Candidate
Wing: None
Status: Healthy, if not a little bruised.
Appearance: Gwen was shaped with a soft, generous hand, her form feminine and fleshed out. She's rounded in all respects, not possessing a single sharp corner or plane, even her facial structure gentle and round. She is not slender, or slim, for she was built to be a solid kind of woman, her hips and thighs wide, calves curved, and belly soft. If she were only a little bit taller, it perhaps could all have been a little more flattering, but as she is a slight 5'3'', her weight gathers in her buttocks and hips, and in some 'padding' on her stomach.
She's a plain kind of girl, with thick, dark brown hair that falls in odd waves here and there, unfortunate half-curls that can never seem to make up their minds if they want to exist or not. Her eyes are large for her face, which often makes her seem much younger than she really is, and though they're a warm, charming brown, Gwen often feels that they are ignored in favor for her nose, which she thinks is far too big, though in reality it sits just fine above her perpetually smiling lips. Her fingers are sort of pudgy, short on her small hands, and Gwen has always had a hard time finding rings to fit her.
Coming from a family of Beastcrafters, Gwen has spent a good majority of her life out of doors and in the sun, and her skin reflects it, an even tan, though when she wears tunics without sleeves you can see the stark tanlines. She's freckled here and there in odd patches - some on her forearms, a few here and there on her cheeks, her shoulders.
Personality: Gwen is amiable. Her core personality trait is that she will always attempt to be as helpful as possible, even if the other parties involved have no need, or want, of her help. Often, she's oblivious to the more sinister goings-on of daily life, and has several times mucked her way into situations that were awkward or painful as a result of her desire to help. She tends to chatter, liking to find several social partners and engage in conversation, not caring if it has any true substance.
She often comes off as a kind of 'side kick', her inability to see people's darker intentions and need to be of assistance coupled with her tendency to be easily guilted, or misguided. Gwen doesn't often form opinions on her own, usually looking for the guidance or will of someone with a stronger personality to tell her how to feel, or what to do. Gwen does, however, have her own strong sense of morality, though she is terrible at upholding it. She's the type that will say, "I don't think we should do this," and then follow quietly, nervous and full of anxiety. It's probably best that Gwen likes to surround herself with people - if there is a bump or lull in the floor, Gwen will find it, and subsequently hurt herself. Her hips often bump into doorways, table corners, and other people, and she is typically littered with bruises, the fruit of her gracelessness.
As is expected of the eldest daughter in a large family, Gwen's maternal instincts are heavily developed, and she adores children and infants of any species, always finding some way to sneak one home to care for it. She will always mother and nag at her close friends (and everyone else, to boot), concerned for their health or safety, or both.
History: Growing up in a large family had its perks and its downfalls, Gwen always thought. She was the eldest daughter, and carried the enormous burden of assisting her mother with the care and tutelage of her younger siblings, which were numerous and seemed to swell in multitude year by year, particularly as her elder brothers had children of their own and continued to reside with them. While she adored her siblings and never chafed at the thought of caring for them, and was a patient, if somewhat clumsy teacher, Gwen disliked the idea of being married off and away from her family.
A few attempts at contracted marriages had been made, but typically fell through, due either to her father's lack of communication skills, or Gwen's own dislike of her intended husband. She often dreamed of a sensitive, gentle man, but all of the men she'd been offered seemed either crass or stupid, or an unfortunate combination of the two.
It probably did not help that her family was in the beastcrafting trade, a hard line of work that did not have the tendency to yield tender, romantic men with flowery ideas about marriage. Gwen figured that the herdbeasts probably were as romantic as most of the men that tended them got, and despaired.
While assisting in the birth of a new calf of sturdy runnerbeast stock, Gwen was Searched, hands still dripping with blood and afterbirth runoff. While Gwen was unsure of what the Searchdragon sensed in her, she was excited for the prospect of dragons - mighty, magnificent, beautiful creatures! She knows little of the politics of the Weyrs, having never been much instructed in them, and knows absolutely nothing of Weyr life. The culture shock is sure to be immense.
Family: Gwen hails from a massive family. Several generations come together underneath their roof, and while all is mostly harmonious, as her family is not known for its temper, things can still get tense or stressful. She's always been surrounded by people and becomes very nervous and anxious when she is left alone, and does not like extended silence.
