Yep, that's me, Shipfish.
You may call me whatever you wish, be it Newb, Fish, Fishy, Fishey, Ship, Dolphin, etc, as long as I know you are talking to me.
I am relatively new at role-play, having only been exposed for about the last year. I first encountered RP on pet sites, where I considered it somewhat (well) uncool. But then, I had a revelation (part of which occurred inside a tree [get me to tell you about it sometime]) which was: Writing is cool. Thereafter I worked to develop my skills with written word.
I still am not the best writer, but I do have occasional moments of genius, at least as I see it.
I think that I am now supposed to write about what I like to do. Much of my spare time is spent playing golf. Contrary to popular belief, golf IS a sport. One cannot simply walk onto a golf course or driving range and expect to hit the ball well; in most cases, one cannot even hit the ball at all in the beginning. I am not yet very good, but I am still learning, and have improved tremendously since I started.
Sorry about that discourse on golf; I get very annoyed when someone tries to tell me golf is not a 'real' sport.
The next thing that fills up the most of my free time is reading. I love, absolutely adore, reading. Reading can transport you to wherever it is you want to go only slightly better than writing. When I was a child, I was the type to play with my Hooked on Phonics for hours and hours, repeating everything over and over to get it exactly right. (My mom says I am mildly autistic [she would know, she went to school for that stuff] and i decided, with the help of Wikipedia, that I am a textbook case of Asperger's syndrome.) I was capable of reading, although i was not consciously aware of this skill, at five or six, and only learned I could read at about eight. Once I discovered I could read, I began to devour books at an astonishing pace (This is starting to read like am autobiography with TMI, I think I will stop soon).
I take a very long time to write things, as I abhor the thought of sending a first draft out where people can read it.
Er. I am approaching the yawning point, am I not? I have not said much about my character. I consider myself to be emphatic, and kind but often blunt without realizing it. I am, paradoxically, very conscious and concerned about what people think about me, but I sometimes act like I don't. If I say something that offended you, please call me out on it, I will apologize.
There we go. I will end now.
(P.S. Sorry for all the big/uncommon words, they make me feel like I know things about life even if I don't)
